In late 2023, Benson Amps met Dave Jordan of Non-Human Audio at a pedal event in OKC. From the moment they heard his unique Slow Loris modulated slapback effect, they were hooked. Chris and Dave struck up a conversation about the Loris, diving deep into its design and possibilities. Enthralled by the sound, Chris offered to help explore a different, potentially more controllable approach—mostly because it sounded like fun.
A couple of swapped schematics and a few wild tangents later, the Florist was born. Both Benson and Non-Human Audio were so inspired by the new direction that Dave suggested pushing the concept even further, leading to a full-fledged collaboration.
While the Florist originates from the core idea of the Slow Loris, it is an entirely different creation—not a revision or modification of the original. The delay range is significantly faster than the Slow Loris, and the signal path has been redesigned for higher fidelity. A compressor-style detector circuit now controls the delay speed, while a second delay channel, operating with its own independent detector, allows for through-zero flanging and tri-chorus textures. Each wet signal, along with the dry signal, has independent volume controls (DRY, WET A, and WET B), and the two wet signals feature their own intensity controls (INTENSITY A and INTENSITY B) for fine-tuned blending.
Additionally, the Florist introduces a latching footswitch feature called GHOSTS, which generates feedback teetering on the edge of oscillation in both delay lines. This leads to otherworldly, unpredictable sounds that defy conventional categorization. While the Florist can function as a chorus or slapback delay, it also unlocks a vast spectrum of experimental tones—flanging, modulated reverb, swirling high-frequency sighs, and erratic notes that seem to take on a life of their own. Its sheer uniqueness consistently turns heads when people experience it for the first time.
Benson and Non-Human Audio are especially excited to see how musicians apply the Florist beyond the guitar world—on vocals, drums, synths, and beyond. The sonic possibilities feel wild and limitless.
